Training packages

Early Literacy

This training explores how practitioners can encourage and develop their children’s early literacy skills. It provides insight into the building blocks and skills that children need to experience to be able to read and write. I share my top strategies for encouraging children to become literate, with a focus on instilling a love of reading and prioritising the development of children’s communication and language skills.

Delving deeper into books

This is so important for developing children’s communication and language skills. I make recommendations on high quality texts to read with the children and support planning of delving deeper into these books, so that the children get the most from these sessions. With a focus on vocabulary and questioning and ideas on how enhancements can be put into the environment to support the children’s learning.

Developing phonological awareness

Developing phonological awareness should start at birth, so that children are ready to learn synthetic phonics (identifying letter sounds) in their last term of preschool. I identify the core skills children should be developing and suggest great activities to enhance these skills. The training can also include mentoring staff to gain confidence and passion for teaching a Phonics session, particularly by making sure they know their pure sounds.

Early Mathematics

Maths is really all around us! I can work with practitioners to develop a pedagogy that promotes exploration and problem-solving skills of the world around us, to provide the children with strong mathematical foundations. I train you on identifying teachable moments during child-initiated play and on developing engaging and explicit opportunities for the children to experience daily mathematical language and concepts.
